Salento wine shop is a project that was born in 2015 from the collaboration of two Lecce winelovers with decades of experience in the wine sales sector.

Salentowineshop is a new concept of online store as it is not only born with the idea of selling the wines of Salento, but also and above all with the idea of promoting, and bringing all over the world, the wines produced in the Salento peninsula.

Our idea is to select the best labels of Salento going every day to discover the Salento area to discover new wineries and new labels to offer to our passionate customers. The offer currently made up of around 45 wineries and 240 labels is therefore constantly growing, making salentowineshop the most important online shop in the world specialized in selling Salento wines.

STEFANO SPAGNOLO

My name is Stefano Spagnolo and I was born in Rome 42 years ago. I have traveled all over Italy in terms of study and work, but my roots have always been well planted in the deep south, and precisely in Salento, the land of my father and my grandparents, a harsh and hard but rich land of sea, sun, farms, agriculture and noble people. I am a biochemist by training and a wine lover by passion. After graduating in Biology I obtained a Master’s Degree in Cell Biology and a PhD in Applied Biochemistry. I worked for 15 years as a researcher in various universities and research centers. The last part of my academic career has been closely linked with wine, first with the work on the selection of autochthonous wine yeasts carried out at the Institute of Agri-food Production of the CNR and then as Bio-Informatic at IBM where I am involved in traceability of the supply chain and biomolecular traceability of wine. From there I decided to change my work and dedicate myself completely to the world of wine and creating www.salentowineshop.com the first E-commerce of Salento wines in the world followed immediately by the activities dedicated to the promotion and hospitality of the wine. The passion for my land leads all my work which ultimately consists in transmitting to my customers, wine lovers, travelers, enthusiasts and tourists the same passion for wine.

My name is Marco Mascialino I was born and lived in Lecce and I am 39 years old. Trade in wines since ever, ever since I was a child I went to the store with my grandfather (who since 1950 sold bulk wines contained in terracotta jars). In 1999 I graduated and started working, immediately following my passion, with my grandfather in the historic Salumeria of Piazza S.Oronzo aiming immediately to increase the offer of bottled wines made in Salento and trying to promote their sale . In 2003 after the beautiful and formative experience with my grandfather I opened my first Enoteca one of the first in Lecce, (the Bottega del Nonno) starting immediately with the sale of bulk wines of the Salento area, and gradually maturing also an offer of bottled wines developing an offer increasingly aimed at the quality of products and coming to have an offer of about 500 different local, national and international labels. I have participated in many events and trade fairs related to wine, gaining a great experience in the wine trade. Currently in addition to managing my historic Enoteca in Lecce since 2015 I started a new adventure also focusing on the online sale of typical wines of Salento with Salentowineshop always trying to focus on the variety and quality of the offer and on the excellent service offered to the customer.

Like his Grandfather, Stefano lives in Lecce with his wife and two children. He operates his online business, Salentowineshop.com, and knows as much about Salento vino as anybody on the planet. When I reached out, Spagnolo was (and still is) establishing a tour and tasting business, and we became his inaugural guinea pigs. The next three days, Stefano was our guide, interpreter, and friend. Pur avendo radici salentine, ho imparato a conoscere il Salento da poco tempo, pochi anni. Probabilmente è quello che accade a chi, vivendo lontano per gran parte della sua vita e visitando tante differenti realtà italiane ed estere, torna a casa e apprezza in un modo diverso, più ampio, quello che aveva lasciato alle spalle. Per me, che ho alle spalle una vita fatta di ricerca e sperimentazione scientifica, rimangono ancora un mistero e una contraddizione. Il Salento è ricco di storia, cultura e arte. Qui si custodisce anche la millenaria cultura dell’olio e del vino, vera ricchezza di questa terra.
