Castel di Salve winery located in Depressa, part of the municipality of Andrano (Lecce_Puglia) in the south of Salento.
A family linked to the cultivation of the land and the production of wines from 1885 in the ancient family winery, founded by Antonio Winspeare. In 1992, the new Castel di Salve was founded by Francesco Winspeare, great-grandson of Antonio and brother of the director Edoardo. The Winspeare family arrived in Salento (at the time part of the Kingdom of Naples) in the 18th century. Forced to leave England at the time of the religious wars being a Catholic family.
Castel di Salve has, therefore, ancient history and an ancient recognition attest the value of the wines produced by this winery already in 1800. In fact, on 1 November 1888, the winery received the “First diploma of honour superior red table wines” given to the family during the Italian Exhibition.
The ancient wine factory, dating back to the end of the 1800s, houses the barrel vault with Lecce stone vaults restored with a conservative perspective. An evocative environment that allows you to immerse yourself in the wine history of the area.
The cellar produces 10 labels and 180,000 bottles. The grapes used are mainly native ones, grown on owned land. Verdeca, Negroamaro, Primitivo, Black Malvasia of Lecce (together with other Italian grapes) are grown on land in the Supersano, Parabita and Casarano areas with different characteristics and microclimates. Cultivation is by spurred cordon espalier.
Cento su Cento is a representative wine of the winery, both Primitivo and Negroamaro. Between modernity of taste and respect for the territory were born then Priante, Lama del Tenente and still a very precious Aleatico and the Lady Killer, a 100% Black Malvasia of Lecce.
