Feudi di Guagnano is located in Guagnano in the province of Lecce (Puglia/Italy). This winery was born from the initiative of three local entrepreneurs who have a mission: to save the Negroamaro vineyards abandoned by elderly winemakers.
The company owns 30 hectares of vineyards with Primitivo, Negroamaro, Malvasia Nera and Verdeca vines. The cultivation is of the Apulian sapling, with plants between 20 and 80 years old. Part of the vineyards owned belongs to the DOP Salice Salentino. The lands are divided into plots in the area around Guagnano. These are called “Feudi” from the dialectal “fiéu” which in the Salento area means rural district. The district was the grouping of all the vineyards, large and small that were part of the Lord and feudatory master of Guagnano.
To date, the annual production consists of about 200,000 bottles, divided among 15 labels where Negroamaro is the master with its red wines of great body, structure and tannins.
Among the labels stands the Nero di Velluto, pure Negroamaro. Nero di Velluto has a limited production of about 10,000 bottles a year, all hand-numbered, obtained only in the best years from bunches selected by hand from a 1935 vineyard.
