Consorzio Produttori Vini was born in Manduria, in Puglia (Italy), in 1928 for the production of Primitivo and red musts. A small group of winemakers took over an old production plant and started the “Federazione Vini”, a producer association. In 1923 the federation became cooperative with the establishment of the “Consorzio Produttori Vini Superiore and Red Musts for Cutting in the Manduria area”.
The winery’s mission is linked to the enhancement and defence of the Primitivo di Manduria. This grape was in fact used as a cutting wine, to strengthen the other wine labels of northern Italy and French. Only in the 90s, it was decided to make it a top wine recovering not only native grape but the history of a territory.
Today the consortium has 400 members who can boast the title of Masters in Primitivo. The land owned is around 1000 hectares of vines, half of which are cultivated with the typical Alberello Pugliese technique.
The production takes place with the utmost respect for the “Primitivo di Manduria” Doc, but the collaboration and growth continue with the support of research projects conducted by the CNR and the University of Bari.
Today the consortium also produces rosé and white wines.
