Alessandro Carrozzo winery is located in Magliano, part of the municipality of Carmiano in the province of Lecce (Puglia). The company was founded in 2001 as a seller of its wines that were previously sold as bulk wine but has much older roots.
In 1877, Giuseppe Carrozzo became the first wine merchant produced in the area. In 1978 Luigina Sozzo married Pino Carrozzo. Luigina’s dowry consisted of a family vineyard cultivated with Negroamaro saplings. With this union, the family reached 11 hectares of owned vineyards cultivated with autochthonous vines such as Negroamaro, Black Malvasia and Primitivo.
Now in its fourth generation, the family-run winery is today run by Alessandro Carrozzo, Giuseppe’s great-grandson. The vineyard continues to be treated as per family tradition, intervening as little as possible on the plants.
Today the company produces 60 thousand bottles a year.
