Sasseo was born from the desire of Masseria Altemura to create a Primitivo of great quality and a strong personality. As his name suggests, it is a direct expression of a land where the limestone “stone” emerges from the red Salento soil, to become a mirror of light. His unmistakable style is a perfect combination of freshness and softness, in a body with the right complexity and the right thickness.

This excellent wine is obtained from grapes grown with a very low yield of about 40 quintals per hectare on the estate, which extends within the production area of ​​the DOC Primitivo di Manduria, in the countryside of Santa Susanna, and collects in one place an ancient 16th century Masseria, the cellar, designed according to the principles of bio-architecture, and the wonderful vineyards that surround it. The clusters are harvested in the first week of September, with a part of the berries reaching a slight over-ripening on the plant. The grapes are then gently pressed and de-stemmed and the must ferments in steel vats at an average temperature of 26 ° C. The resulting wine is aged for 12 months in large Slavonian barrels and for another 6 in the bottle.

Sasseo has a dark and deep ruby ​​red color. Its scent unfolds with intense and full aromas that recall plum, red fruit jam with sweet spice accents. In the mouth it is a full-bodied wine, it is enveloping, warm, soft and expresses a very mature fruitiness, supported by a pleasant texture of sweet tannins.

Pairing: Excellent with savory first courses, with grilled white and red meats or sauces, ideal with baked lamb and aged but not blue cheeses
