Mocavero Winery

Four generations of farming passion in the heart of Salento.

Mocavero Winery is a historic Salento wine estate with roots tracing back to the early 1900s and officially active since 1950, when Tommaso Mocavero bequeathed the farm to Pietro father of the current owners. Today the winery is led by brothers Francesco and Marco Mocavero, the fourth generation of vignerons, who have transformed family tradition into an internationally recognized wine project. With 62 hectares of estate vineyards** between Monteroni di Lecce and Arnesano, the winery produces high-quality wines, focusing on native varieties Primitivo and Negroamaro — authentic expressions of Salento’s terroir.

History and Winemaking Philosophy

The name Mocavero, meaning “warrior” in Arabic, perfectly captures the spirit of brothers Francesco and Marco: determination, courage, and enterprise. The winery’s story began in the early 1900s with their great-grandparents, continued with the construction of the first cellar in Monteroni di Lecce’s historic center in the 1950s — where bulk wine was produced for the local market — and reached a turning point in the 1990s, when the brothers chose to reinvent the family legacy, focusing on quality and territorial identity.
Leaving behind the role of “blending wine” supplier for Northern Italy, Mocavero committed to native varieties, blending peasant wisdom with modern cellar control. Every wine is born from deep listening to the land — nestled between the Adriatic and Ionian seas — and tells of sea breezes, intense light, and the gentle charm of a wind-kissed region. For Mocavero, winemaking is an act of memory and vision: a journey both real and imagined, waiting to be experienced with every glass.
